Aether Fest Program 12: Radionoise

KUNM, 89.9 FM, Albuquerque
on Fresh, hosted by Alan Liddell

Sound works that use radio signals and broadcasts as their primary material.

SPECIAL FEATURE: Jumpering Wild Electricities from Outer Space, a new work commissioned for Aether Fest by artist and radio astronomer Thomas Ashcraft (Lamy, NM), produced by Steve Peters. A multidisciplinary artist/mystic in the tradition of Joseph Beuys, Ashcraft waxes poetic on the mysteries of outer/inner space. Using a complex array of home-built and modified radio telescopes, he has been recording extra-terrestrial audio phenomena since 1991. This work incorporates a variety of unusual energetic and possibly mind-altering waveforms: solar shockwave fronts from the great flare events of the last solar cycle, plasma oscillations, rare forms of sycnhrotron radiation, and mysterious Jovian bursts. Headphones recommended.
