NonSeq: Julio Lopez + Sonora Enjambre

Julio Lopez is a creative musician and music teacher living on Tohono O’odham land / Tucson, AZ. They are interested in sound as thought and thought as sound. Their work orients towards ideas around repertoire (cherished knowledge), ornaments, and emptiness.

I’m excited to be sharing new work for voice and electronics – original compositions braided together with arrangements and fragmentations of love songs, devotional texts, and laments. In particular I’ll be quilting an image of a text by the Spanish mystic San Juan de la Cruz out of queer harmonics and diasporic threads in “American” popular and traditional musics.

Sombra is a descendant of the Condor y la Aguila who dwells on Duwamish land, delivering swarms of cascading sounds as Sonora Enjambre.

Often times, we are inundated with the distraction of “reality and responsibility” and denied what is needed for our spirits to regenerate. Sonorous respite is the desired experience to be shared, reflection for the soul is encouraged. Sonora Enjambre will provide a guided journey in sound, open hearts are welcome.
